Deborah Hanuscin, PhD, Science, Math, & Technology Education at Western Washington University. Debi graduated from Indiana University in 2004, after teaching elementary school and working in informal science. She was a Professor in Physics and Science Education at the University of Missouri for 13 years before moving to her current position in Washington.

Debi’s work focuses on elementary science teacher learning in three areas: preservice teacher education, clinical experiences, and professional development for inservice teachers. Her current research is related to the development of teacher content knowledge for teaching science, and is funded by the National Science Foundation. Debi has served on the boards of NARST and ASTE, as well as the NSTA Alliance of Affiliates. She is currently the President-Elect of ASTE.

Her forthcoming book from NSTA Press, Universal Design for Learning Science, is co-authored with classroom teachers and features examples of classroom instruction designed to meet the diverse needs, interests, and abilities of students.
